The goal for BCR All-Star teams is to field the best teams possible while giving players the opportunity to experience the all-star program of play. The following policy will help us reach that goal in a fair and successful manner by establishing a process that will be used consistently. These teams must meet Cal Ripken Tournament Team composition and player eligibility requirements.
Cal Ripken team composition states:
Rule 11.02.1 – Each Cal Ripken tournament team shall consist of no less than twelve (12) players and no more than fifteen (15), one (1) manager/head coach and two (2) coaches.
Rule 11.02.1a – Each Cal Ripken team may consist of any fifteen players from the league or division regardless of age or position played during the regular season.
Rule 11.02.1b – Managers and coaches must be selected from registered team rosters from the league or division in which they manage or coach.
Cal Ripken eligibility rules state:
Rule 11.03c – Tto be eligible to compete in tournament play, a player, manager or coach must be listed on league and tournament rosters.
Rule 11.03d – To be eligible for tournament play in any division of Babe Ruth League, Inc a player must have played in at least one-half (1/2) of his team's scheduled league games played prior to the start of tournament play.
I. Team Formation
BCR will attempt to form a total of four (4) All-Star teams each year to be comprised of one (1) each, 9U, 10U, 11U and 12U.
All teams will primarly be age pure (age played during season) – players will be allowed to move up to another level as space allows.
II. Team Composition
- The 12U team will be formed from players in Majors.
- The 11U team will be formed from players in Majors/Minors.
- The 10U team will be formed from players in Majors/Minors.
- The 9U team will be formed from players in Minors/Rookies.
III. Player Selection
12U, 11U, 10U, 9U will be selected based on a "try out" or evaluation process.
- Players will attend an assessment.
- Teams will be formed by the Team Manager, Head Coach, and Assistant Coach based on assessment results with the oversight of a Player Representative (member of the Board of Directors).
- A player must be available for practice/game dates. If not, another player will be selected from the list as a replacement.
IV. Manager/Asst Coach Selection
- Manager will be selected by the Board of Directors based on one or more of the following criteria:
- Must have been a rostered coach during that Spring Season’s program, and must be Babe Ruth certified.
- Unless a rostered coach is not available or interested in coaching, in which case candidates meeting all other criteria will be considered.
- Availability for practices and tournament play.
- Ability to represent Berkshire Cal Ripken Baseball League in the best manner possible.
- The ability to communicate with parents and other coaches about sensitive issues like playing time, positions etc.

- Baseball Knowledge
- Past commitment to league functions.
- Asst. Coaches will be selected based on the following criteria:
- Once selected, the manager will submit 2 assistant coaches’ names to the board for approval.
- Babe Ruth certified.
- Availability for practices and tournament play.
- Ability to represent Berkshire Cal Ripken Baseball League in the best manner possible.
